Pools cannot open when temperatures are lower than 65F.

VDOT MEETING

A project meeting update with VDOT, the Design-Build Construction Team (Archer Western Construction and Parsons Transportation Group)  was held on Wednesday May 14, 2015 at the PAX Clubhouse. 

VDOT I-395 HOV Ramp at Seminary Road Project, landscaping, and future projects that may impact our area were some of the projects discussed at the meeting.  The meeting was open to all members of the community and surrounding communities.

South Section Residents of Parkside at Alexandria,
 
Please be advised, water will be shut off to the entire South Section of Parkside at Alexandria, effective 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 to repair a broken water line.
 
(PMG) Plumbing Mechanical Group will work to excavate and repair the water line before water service is restored.
 
We apologize for any convenience and thank you for your cooperation, during this emergency.
 
The clubhouse is available for showers if needed during this time.

PAX Residents,
 
 
A few months ago we sent out a survey requesting feedback on repairs, replacements, and vendors you may have used for your unit. Based on the surveys we received we were able to determine the most common issues with  hot water heaters and HVAC units.
 
Parkside management was able to contact some of the frequently used vendors to provide bulk pricing for hot water heater/ HVAC repairs and  replacements. Below you will find a contact list of vendors
that have provided bulk discounted prices for Parkside residents only.
 
The link is only a contact list. You may contact the management office to inquire about prices, but those given will only be estimated prices and may vary per unit and brands. We hope this will be of some help! Please contact the management office if you have any further questions.

PARKING STANDARDS FOR NEW DEVELOPMENT STUDY: Task Force Meeting #5

PARKING STANDARDS FOR NEW DEVELOPMENT STUDY: Task Force Meeting #5

The City of Alexandria is hosting the fifth meeting of the Parking Standards for New Development Projects Task Force on Thursday, February 12, 2015.   Staff will share final draft recommendations for new parking standards for new multi-family residential development projects.

Ad Hoc Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan Advisory Committee Meeting to be Held February 4
 
The Ad Hoc Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Advisory Committee will hold its fourth meeting on Wednesday, February 4 from 7 to 9 p.m.  This meeting will be held at Alexandria City Hall, Sister Cities Room 1101, 301 King Street. This meeting will focus on the pedestrian and bicycle vision, goals and objectives, and pedestrian focus areas.
 
The update of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan will include an evaluation of existing conditions, issues, constraints and needs, as well as a review of existing policies, goals and objectives. Pedestrian and bicycle projects will be identified, along with future bikeshare station locations, and strategies to implement the plan.  The role of the Advisory Committee is to provide guidance to City staff on the update to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan and the development of Complete Streets Design Guidelines.

Management office late closing-
2014 Decals are set to expire on the 30th of September. We will begin this process next week. Starting  09/09/2014 the management office will remain opened until 7:30PM for residents convenience until 09/18/2014. No unit can attain more than two PAX decals with all 2nd decals costing $75.00. Please be sure to bring your most recent vehicle registration in order to receive a new decal.

2015 PARKING DECALS
 
 
The Management Office will issue PAX 2015 Parking Decals in Mid September. 2014 Decals are set to expire on the 30th of September. As soon as we receive the decals and visitor hang tags-we will notify the Association. No unit can attain more than two PAX decals with all 2nd decals costing $75.00.
 
 
 
 

 
 
  PAX Ice Cream social!
 
Please join us on August 23rd from 1pm-4pm for a Community Ice Cream Social. We will have a face painter and a moon bounce for the kids but all PAX residents are welcome.
In case of inclement weather, the ice cream and face painting will be moved to the clubhouse.

Pet waste:                                                                                                           
 
It was observed during an inspection of the grounds that pet owners are failing to pick up after their pets-dog poop.  As a result, both residents and small children are stepping in dog poop while enjoying the common areas of the Association.
 
The Association has provided doggie bags and trash bins that are located throughout the property to aid pet owners in cleaning up after their pets.  It is the responsibility of the pet owner to properly dispose of your pet waste bags.
 
We ask all pet owners to please be responsible and clean up after your pet.  It is the neighborly and the right thing to do.

PAX Residents,
 
There have been a number of complaints by residents in our community about improperly dumped garbage that they have seen in the common areas and or on patios.
Please help us keep our community clean so we can all rest and relax at home without having to see or smell…any type of trash or clutter.
 
To help do your part. We ask you to keep your patios free of any trash or items that do not belong there and keep all pieces of trash in a garbage bin.
Please do not leave them by your door or in other places on the grounds overnight.
Please take your garbage bags to the dumpster as soon as you leave your unit.
This way no one’s trash ends  up on someone else’s patio by cause of wind ect.
 
Such trash like cardboard boxes must be broken down and placed in recycling bin.
Styrofoam is not recyclable and must be placed in the trash.
 
Please also dispose of cigarette butts properly and not on the grounds.
No litter is good litter.

Parkside is proud to announce that we will be having our first featured speaker, Faye Dastgheib, Principal Parking Planner for the City of Alexandria, on July 22 here at our clubhouse. Light refreshments will be served starting at 6 PM accompanied by a Meet and Greet with Faye, followed by a presentation at 6:30 then Questions and Answers and discussion going until approximately 8 PM.  Since this is our inaugural featured speaker and the topic is of wide-ranging community interest, we hope for a really good turnout.

Below you will find VDOT's estimate of number and type of trees to be installed in front of Parkside.
 
From Sta. 316 (500’ left of Maris Ave.) to Sta. 408 (150’ left of Kenmore Ave.), we currently have the following breakdown:
 
Canopy Trees = 21;
Evergreen Trees = 74;
Ornamental Trees = 117;
 
Total Trees = 212
 
We will be adding more trees within this area.  How many more trees has not been determined at this stage.

PAX Unit Owners,
 
Our Annual Meeting will be held on June 23, 2014 at the Charles E. Beatley Central Library at 6:30 PM.
In order for the Association to conduct business, we must attain quorum of at least 20% of the PAX owners.
 
If you are unable to attend the meeting please fill out the Proxy which represents you in case of an absence and will help us to achieve the necessary percentage to attain quorum.
 
If the Association does not reach a quorum for this meeting, we will have to spend more of the Association’s funds to send out another mailer to have the Annual Meeting at another date to be determined.
Please do your part to help prevent this from happening. Call the management office if you have any questions. Thanks

Parkside at Alexandria will be offering power washing for patios for a fee of $30.
Power washing will began the week of 05/26/2014. Payment is due before power wash is completed.

Patio Maintenance

As part of the exterior, the condition of the patios is a significant factor in the external appearance of the community. The curb appeal of the community is also a significant factor in the preservation of the value of each individual unit.
 
Owners and tenants are responsible for “Normal maintenance” of their patios. “Normal Maintenance is defined as the general state of cleanliness of the patio, ...and also includes the care of pruning, and trimming foliage which is on, in or growing from the patio. Plant beds, shrubs or potted plants located within the patio shall be maintained within the boundaries of the patio. Patios should be swept and free of materials that should be in storage. Residents whose patios do not meet the Normal Maintenance guidelines will receive a violation notice.

Dominion Power is working on replacing an electrical pole behind building #2, only residents
from building #2 will be affected. The power will need to be turned off for a couple of hours and should be back on by pm.

REMINDER:
 
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be at this week's Board of Directors meeting. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the construction activities that have now begun along I-395 and North Van Dorn St. The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m.. on Wednesday (3/26) in the Parkside Clubhouse.

Polk Park Concept Plan
 
The Park and Recreation Commission held a public hearing on the park design back in September, and approved a design for the park (attached). The design includes pervious paving treatment for the main trail (where the existing drive is located). Depending on funding this would either be Flexi-pave (we have a recent trail over at Dora Kelley using this material), or some finer gravel/stone material. The bollard will stay, as the trail is designed to allow for maintenance vehicles only (or Police/Emergency). Site furnishings, including benches, are also shown in the plan, and there is a trash can at the entrance now maintained by TES. On the attached concept plan, seating is shown along the trail in pinkish shade, and the central gathering area proposes built in “knee wall” seating. There is existing regulatory signage at the entrance of the park, and we certainly can consider another reminder regarding rules of the park further into the site.
